THE PIED PIPER OF HAMELIN
INTRODUCTION:
I am planning to write a blog. This blog will take 365 days to finish (or, for that matter, 366 days, in case of a leap year). And this blog is about fairie tales-& other stories. Today is Day #1.
There is a story called "The Pied Piper of Hamelin." I will be telling you this story today...
Once upon a time, there was a Pied Piper who lived in the Medieval times, around the 1200's.
And at that time, there was an infestation of RATS. Rats bothered cooks, and annoyed people while they were at home.
And then there is the following question: What is a Pied Piper? Well, a Pied Piper is someone who rids of beasts and pests. So it was the Pied Piper's job to get rid of the rats. But after asking if he could help stop the infestation of the rats, no one even considered it. And a child said "You should get yourself a hearing and go to jail." The Pied Piper was hurt, emotionally, so he promised revenge on the boy.
The Pied Piper of Hamelin decided to ask the mayor if he could, in a way, help stop all the rats. The mayor agreed. In exchange for stopping all the rats, the Pied Piper would get a lot of gold pieces, more than the mayor could afford. But the mayor did not believe in the Pied Piper, so he didn't care. But there was yet for him to have a lesson learned...
You see, the Pied Piper had a magical flute. Playing notes on the flute, the rats followed the Pied Piper up to the River West. After stopping there, all the rats tumbled into the river.
Everyone cheered for the Pied Piper of Hamelin. "Where's my money?" the Pied Piper asked the mayor. The mayor, you see, was dumbstruck. He couldn't pay the Pied Piper. He did not have enough money. "Pay me by the time the sun gets darker- or else."
After this, the mayor talked with others of Hamelin. Then he had a plan.
By the time the sun got darker, the Pied Piper went up to the mayor. "We were going to make a little prank on you! You didn't think we'd pay you, did you?" At this, the Pied Piper grew extremely angry. He then played three notes on his flute. Soon, children came flooding into the street. The Pied Piper led the children into the mountains, and in the mountains there was a magical portal that led to a world where birds sang and horses had wings. Every child went inside the portal... except the child that insulted the Pied Piper. The portal closed in on that child.
The sad child went back home and told his story. After telling his story of where the children were, the villagers wrote this story on a stone near the closed portal. But if they learned anything from what happened, it's to keep your promises... and to think about a promise before you make one.
